Zach Quinto

Zach recently sat with FHM and spoke about his role in the new star trek movie and there is a special cover that you can order through the internet.

Currently filming aboard the original Enterprise, the man playing Starfleet’s pointiest-eared Science Officer was never what you would call a hard-core Trek follower.

“I was exposed to Star Trek when growing up,” he says. “I watched some episodes and a couple of movies, but I was never fanatical.”
Not that he’s biting the hand that feeds him, as he explains the attraction of acting up the fantastical.
“There’s a core faith in the human condition that exists in a lot of science fiction, but in particular Star Trek and Heroes,” says the sometime Sylar. “And I don’t think there’s any mistake I’m aligned with that.”

Nichelle Nichols Talks About Heroes… by Damien

Nichelle Nichols

Nichelle Nichols recently sat down to chat about her role on Heroes…

On the new season of Heroes, Micah (Noah Gray-Cabey) was rushed off to New Orleans to live with relatives, Nana Dawson (Nichelle Nichols) and Monica Dawson (Dana Davis). These two actresses spoke to reporters this morning about their Heroes experience. They spoke about how they got their roles, who St. Joan might be, and what Nichelle Nichols thinks about the upcoming new Star Trek film.

Nichelle Nichols’ involvement came when she was on a short trip back to Los Angeles and her manager told her she had to take this audition. She initially thought it was just for a one-episode guest shot, but was delighted that it was a recurring role after reading the script and getting a good understanding for the character. She tried her best to deflect questions about the possibility of her character having powers, and was also unclear on how many more episodes she’ll be in. Nichols said that her role keeps expanding, but would not confirm or deny

Dana Davis also tried to dance around questions about what’s in store for Monica and what other heroes she might interact with, but she did let us know that Monica will be involved in plenty of fights moving forward, possibly with other heroes. One reporter question whether Monica will actually don a costume and run around fighting crime as St. Joan, the copycat character in the 9th Wonders comic book seen in the last episode. Davis couldn’t answer, but she did say that it was a good guess.

In regards to the new Star Trek film, Nichols has a lot of respect for J.J. Abrams and is confident that the new film will maintain the wonder of Gene Roddenberry’s original while taking the franchise into a new direction. She’s also talked briefly with Heroes co-star Zachary Quinto, who will play Spock. While she was unsure about the casting based upon pictures she saw, when she talked to him and met him in person, she was certain he was the right man for the role. Nichols promised that if or when she gets to do a cameo in the new Star Trek film, she’ll be screaming it from the rooftops, because she would more than love to do that.

The connection between Heroes and Star Trek is strong, and getting stronger: first George Takei (TOS: Sulu), then Dominic Keating (ENT: Malcolm Reed).

Then Zachary Quinto cast as Spock… and earlier this week Heroes creator Tim Kring told he was looking “for another face that will have a very similar impact” to Takei when appearing on the show.

The ‘face’ Kring was talking about is Nichelle Nichols, (ST: Uhura), and she’ll appear on six episodes of Heroes Season Two.

Another Boldly Going Forward?… by Damien

IESB recently sat down with James Kyson Lee and asked him about maybe having a role in Star Trek…

The IESB was able to speak with James Kyson Lee who plays Ando on NBC’s Heroes and Star Trek XI was the hot topic!

Zachary Quinto is Spock, Anton Yelchin has been cast as Pavel Chekov, so who will round up the rest of the cast? Will the rest of the OG crew such as Sulu, Scotty, etc make appearances as well?

A couple of weeks ago during Comic Con, the IESB spent a few minutes talking to a few of the guys from Heroes including Milo Ventimiglia, Zachary Quinto – the recently announced Spock and James Kyson Lee – Ando. And Star Trek was very much the conversation!

As we spoke with James, he said he would love to play the role of Hikaru Sulu that was made legendary by actor George Takei. At first I thought that he was kidding a bit, but by the end of the interview, it appears that he was quite serious about trying to reach out the Abrams camp.

Could he pull it off? Certainly. Would it be too much to have two Heroes stars playing two roles in the new Star Trek movie? Probably, but it still fun to see actors being so excited about Star Trek. Besides, a good actor is a good actor and it’s all about who you know in this business.

You know Greg Grunberg (my favorite Hero) is going to have a part in there somewhere. He’ll probably be the Ensign without a last name…and we all know what that means! Hopefully he will supply some plucky comic relief along the way.
